Overview
Spot! is a mobile service that builds relationships between commuter students and non-local students to create more meaningful relationships while discovering affordable and local attractions unlike competitions such as Unidays, The Nudge, and Student Edge.
Results
Through extensive research and design efforts, Spot! successfully bridges the gap between commuter and non-local students at Farmingdale State College, fostering meaningful relationships and enriching the student experience. The high-fidelity prototype, backed by comprehensive user research including personas, empathy maps, and journey maps, effectively addresses the social disconnect by offering personalized, budget-friendly local attractions. The intuitive information architecture, detailed storyboard, and meticulously crafted wireframes ensure a seamless user experience, positioning Spot! as a unique solution in the student engagement landscape.


Background
Spot! is a dynamic mobile service co-created by a collaborative team of students, aimed at fostering meaningful connections between commuter and non-local students. Unlike existing platforms like Unidays and The Nudge, Spot! uniquely focuses on building relationships while guiding users to discover affordable and local attractions, enriching the college experience for all.
Problem
Creating a mobile interface for students that attend Farmingdale State College to discover discounted attractions while also creating new friends with commuter and dorm students.
Solution
Spot! addresses the challenge of commuter and non-local students feeling disconnected by offering a tailored mobile platform that not only facilitates social connections but also provides personalized recommendations for affordable and local attractions, creating a vibrant community within the college ecosystem. By combining relationship-building features with curated local insights, Spot! ensures students can seamlessly integrate into their campus environment and make the most of their college experience.
Research Methods


Scope of Data Collected




Personas
Based on user research, two types of personas were created: Commuter Students, and Dorm Students.


Empathy Maps
Empathized and analyzed target users' thoughts, feelings, statements, and behaviors as they navigate their college lives.


Journey Maps
By creating journey maps, I gained a clearer understanding of the various activities my target audience engages in while working and identified their stress levels at each stage.
